Mitsubishi Repair: 95 eclipse gsx doesnt rev over 5500 rpm, throttle position sensor, eclipse gsx

Question
I have a 1995 eclipse 5sp 2.0 nonturbo that recently had a high idle problem.  The Throttle position sensor, Idle Air control valve, and the o2 sensor were all replaced. Still, it wasn't fixed. So it was taken to a mechanic to get looked at. They found the problem and it was a vacuum leak at a sensor at the manifold. When I got the car back it wouldn't rev over 5500 rpm. I asked the mechanic about it and the only thing they could say is that it came in like that, but it didn't.
Do you have any ideas?
thanx

Answer
Bobby,
There may be a problem with your car's computer (a.k.a. ECU), that is tripping the rev limiter.  The rev limiter on your Eclipse should be set to about 7000-7500 RPMs from factory.  Most all modern cars have rev limiters to protect the engine from revving into the redline area and destroying itself.

I'm not sure how replacing a gasket on a manifold would effect  your rev limit, and I doubt your mechanic would be able to diagnose it either.  It still may be your mechanic's fault for your problem you have now, but it may only be able to be diagnosed by the dealership.  Take your car to them if you really want to get this diagnosed properly.
Good luck!
