Motorcycle Repair: 72 cb450

Question
HiBill.  Just purchased a 72 cb450 with 2700 miles.  Very nice bike in great shape.  All original, even the tires.  Problem no. 1 is the threaded clutch lifter.  the gizmo that holds the cable end has split and is no longer functional.  Do I need to find thr whole lifter mechanism,or can I pop that rivet and fit a new cable holder with a new rivet?  Thanks I advance.

If you are handy with tools and metal, you can fix the one you have, assuming you have some similar parts to work with.  The part is not "serviceable" from Honda. Looks like the one part number fits ALL 450 and 500T models.

I would check the wear/slack between the lifter and the adjuster threads. They wear out pretty fast on the 250-305s, which lessens the amount of rotational travel needed to push the clutch pushrod far enough to release the clutch plates.  see #10 on the above webpage....22841-266-000
