Motorcycle Repair: 79 yamaha XS 750 triple

Question
I changed out the handlebars. Afterwards the start button *along with the kickstart doesn't do anything. I  have read the it might be a ground attached to the horn on the left side of the handlebars. I don't know what went wrong.

Answer
Hi Patrick,

There are a few possibilities if the start button
is not working. One is that you have blown a fuse.

The second is that the ground circuit to the start
button has been somehow interupted.
Yamaha generally uses a black wire for grounds.

There should be power to your starter relay
on a red/white wire with the key on if the fuses
are good.

The blue/white relay wire goes to the start button
where it gets grounded to activate the starter
relay.

If the start button does not ground the blue/white
wire then the starter relay will not work.

Follow the battery positive wire to find the relay
if you are uncertain of where it is.

A wire may have got pinched or broken but
if you have a multimeter you should be able
to trace most of them.

Let me know if you need more info.
