Nissan Repair: 2000 QX4 stalls, mass airflow sensor, nissan dealer

Question
My wife's QX4 with the Nissan 3.3 engine stalls sporadically while driving at city street speeds. It can go several weeks without stalling or stall twice in one day. The car has restarted immediately. The car has 70K miles and runs flawlessly otherwise. The check engine light does not come on and no error codes are stored. Our Nissan dealer was not able to reproduce the problem with the test equipment attached during the two weeks they had the car. Any thoughts on what to check or how to narrow this down?

Answer
Al,

I would have them backprobe the mass airflow sensor and check to make sure the coils are all checking good with an ohm meter.  If both systems check good have them check the crank position sensor.  Those are the three things I know of that will cause the problem and not set a code.  Yes, all three things are supposed to set a code but sometimes they do not.  If they hook up the Consult II to the car and drive it until it does it they will know the exact problem...  If you are willing to give it to them for two weeks like you say I would take it back and give them this advice and have your service writer or the specialist use it as their vehicle, with the Consult II connected until it craps out and they can get a screen capture.  The Consult II is Nissan specific and does a wonderful job of getting problems solved.
