Motorcycle Repair: Kawasaki/Susuki rear wheel tire, motorcycle wrecker, 750 gsx

Question
I have a 1991 kawasaki ex500. I need a new rear wheel tire and I saw a guy parting his 2000 Susuki 750 gsx
Katana. What do I need to know in order to figure out if his rear wheel will fit on my motorcycle.

Answer
Hi Chris,

You would need axle size and length, total wheel width with spacers
sprocket size, chain size, basically as many measurements
as they are willing to give. Most rear wheels are only suited
for the bike they are made for but sometimes a subsitute
can work. It would be much easier to find a ex500 wheel used
at a motorcycle wrecker and fit that.
The GSX rear sprocket may not be in perfect alignment with the ex500
front sprocket without some spacing adjustments.
