Answer

Hi Andrew,

With todays fuel the carbs can get gummed up quickly if the bike
was parked without fuel stabilizers added. That being said there are
a few things you can do to see what is wrong.

First thing is to put a spark plug on the plug wires and
lay it against the metal on the engine, see if you have
some spark on the plugs.

If you have spark on the plugs then you can probably assume
that is working.

Next, see if you can get to the rear of the carbs or remove the air filter
and spray a bit of carb cleaner, wd40 or a small spray of starting fluid
into the back or intake side of the carbs, see if it will run
a few seconds on that.

If it fires on any of that fuel then you know your fuel system has
a problem.  The fuel may not be getting to the carbs or
the carbs might be all gummed up inside the float bowls.

If that is the case you can remove and clean the carbs thoroughly
or try filling the carbs with some yamaha brand carb cleaner
and let it soak a few hours and drain carbs, try it again.

Make sure the air filter is not plugged up.

It might have a fuel filter too.

The carbs may have water in the bottom that needs to be drained/cleaned out.
Get a spray can of carb cleaner and blow out any carb passageways
or parts you can get to, it might start working.

If you have spark, fuel, air flow, good plugs and some cylinder compression it should run.
