Motorcycle Repair: Xr100 carb leaking gas, Carburetor floats, fuel levels

Question
Im having trouble setting the float needle. Should the needle have any play or should it just sit on the metal tab.

Answer
Turn the carburetor right side up with the bowl off.
The needle should only drop out of the needle valve seat 2 to 3 mm.
If it drops further it can get cocked sideways and get stuck there and not seat.
Also check to see if the float could be dragging the side of the bowl and keep it from seating.
Also put the float in gasoline and see how it floats, leave it over night to see if it sinks.
Sometimes the floats start to absorb the fuel and don't float anymore.
