Motorcycle Repair: 1986 Virago 700, starter clutch, clutch assembly

Question
Wayne,

Can you give me an idea of how long it should take to install a starter clutch assembly? And/or to rebuild one?

Thanks,
Laura

Answer
Hi Laura,

Time is hard to estimate as it depends on the person doing the job and having
all the tools ready but usually it will take about 4 to 6 hours to carefully
remove, clean and reassemble the new starter drive parts.

It is better to take some time and carefully inspect each part for wear
as the starter will thank you for it.

The older Virago has a different starting system from the later
ones. Yours should have the later type which is a bit better.
