Motorcycle Repair: 1977 KZ650 Carb problem(s), google search, bill silver

Question
I had my carbs rebuilt. I do not need to choke the carbs to start the bike. Runs good when cold, although when in neutral and the throttle is snapped the engine bogs a little. My real problem is that when it is warmed up it goes below idle and stalls. Almost as though it is loading up. The shop that did the work removed the air box and put individual air filters on the carbs because one of the carb couplers was brittle and they couldn't install it. I don't know if they synched the carbs. I am not to pleased with the work the shop did and don't think they would give me an honest answer about any work they did to the bike. I was charged for work that wasn't done. Can you give me direction or pass this on to someone who could? Thanks, Dave J.

Answer
Dave, I just did a GOOGLE search on: (KZ650 Carb problem) and a lot of info came up including a PDF file on adjusting KZ650 carburetors.

Check this URL for specifics on your machine.

My concern is that these bikes were really cold-blooded from the factory, so if yours is starting up with no choke it must be too rich to begin with.  This can happen with someone reaming out the idle jets, setting the floats too high, over-sized main jets or leaking float valves.

I would ride the bike a little then take it back to them and have them ride it and pull the spark plugs to see how they look. If they are all black and fuel-fouled, they did something incorrectly.

That's about all that MrHonda can share with you on this question.
