Motorcycle Repair: 85 Honda V65 Magna carb cleaning, honda v65 magna, vacuum hoses

Question
I recently was given this bike from my dad.  The bike ran great but then sat for a few years.  I know, very bad.  I pulled the carbs out and thought I cleaned them good but when installed the bike ran the same.  It would start with choke on but without the choke it dies and with any throttle it dies.  The only thing I did not do was pull out the pilot jet as they are covered by a metal plug that needs to be drilled out.  Is this my main problem, dirty/clogged pilot jets or should I redo the cleaning again?  Thanks in advance for any advise that you have.

Answer
Bruce....  The plug that you drilled out was so you can access the idle mixture screws. If the actual idle jets are plugged, the screw doesn't have anything to adjust.

You could have an air leak too, at the manifolds or vacuum hoses in the system.
