Dodge Repair: Turbo, coolant leak, turbo wheels


Question
We have a 90'2.5L with Turbo.Can the turbo cause the engine to run warmer or hotter if the turbo wasgate is not working properly?Also can the engine still run if the turbo stops working?

If the wastegate fails then you'll have one of two conditions.  Un-managed boost which could cause the engine to go "pop" if you have a heavy foot.  OR if it's stuck partially/fully open then you're going to have a lack of performance  Either of those two conditions alone should NOT affect engine temp nor prevent the car from running.

HOWEVER, if the actual turbo wheels quit turning you can block both air coming in to the engine as well as air getting out of the engine.  Those two conditions WILL cause a serious lack of performance and maybe even cause the car to not run well/at all.

The turbo is cooled using oil, coolant or both.  If you have a coolant leak then overheating is a possibility but you will have nice plumes of white smoke rolling out of the back.  

If you're running hot I would suggest looking elsewhere first.
