Motorcycle Repair: 1984 Yamaha Virago XV700, float bowls, yamaha virago

Question
Hi Gary,
Hope you can help. I have a no start problem with my '84 Yamaha Virago XV700.  I recently cleaned (didn't rebuild) the dual hitachi carbs.  I noticed that I was getting fuel into one of the float bowls but not the other. Do you think that this is the cause for the no start problem and if so, what do you think is the reason for no fuel going into the float bowl? Could there be a blockage somewhere? Do you recommend a total carburetor rebuild? BTW, I'm getting spark. Thank you for any help that you can provide.
Vic

Answer
Vic, The reason there isnt any gas in the bowl is that the needle valve may not be opening to let it in. It could be misadjusted or stuck. Also some not so good news is that a lot of the parts for the Hitatchi carbs are discontinued and cannot be gotten. If you can pull the carbs and go through them try to reuse some of the parts but then have then syncronized and dialed in once you get it running.
