Nissan Repair: Murano Rear Hatch Wont Open, rear hatch, fuse panel

Question
The rear hatch on my 2006 Murano SL won't open. When I press the outside hatch button, there is no click. I can open the door by flipping the latch inside the door in the cargo area with a screwdriver. There is no obstruction interfering with the door operation. I checked the fuse panel on the inside driver side, but there is no listing in the key for rear hatch lock. I'd like to try to resolve this problem myself before giving up and handing over a small fortune to the dealership for repair.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Jim -

First of all you are on the right track. The fuse may be listed under another name, so it is best to check each fuse with a probe light type circuit tester. Can be purchased at any auto store.

If all the fuses are good, then I would check the switch itself. Open the gate manually, and then remove the lock assembly. Look for cut or disconnected wires. If all OK, then get your light tester again and connect it to the wires going to the latch, one at a time. There should be power to one wire. While you operate the unlock switch, there should be power to the other wire. If not, then the switch is defective.

Hope this helps -
