Motorcycle Repair: honda vt700c, starter button, coils

QUESTION: if i hold the starter button in it will run fine, but when i let go of the starter button it shuts the bike down. any ideas Thank you.

ANSWER: Sounds like the ignition part of the circuit is not working correctly.  Do you get ignition lights when you turn the key to the run position? Let me know,  Jan

QUESTION: all the lights come on

What was the last thing you did before the problem started?  Perhaps there is an interlock on these bikes, I'm not sure if the ignition is getting power can you check on the coils when you have the ignition on do you get 12V on one of the terminals?
