Motorcycle Repair: 05 Hayabusa 1300r not starting, hayabusa 1300r, voltimeter

Question
I have an 05 Hayabusa 1300R and the other week while i was out riding it just turned off while driving and shut down by time i got it to the shoulder. I cranked it again while sitting there and it sounded real rough. I got it home and now it won't even turn over. When i press in the start button to crank the headlight goes out and the dash goes dim until i release button and after while battery will drain if i continue to try and start it. I had battery tested and its good and also put new rectifier on it cause heard that causes problems. I put a voltimeter on the battery and its showing between 12 and 13volts before trying to start but when push in start button it drops to around 5 or lower volts.

Answer
Gene, There could be two problems as the ignition will quit working properly if the voltage drops off. However the lights going dim may be a bad connection on the ground side or the starter is taking to many amps to spin over at a speed fast enough to start. The battery should be load tested to see if the cranking amps drop off. Also check the ground cable thats attatched to the battery and the frame or engine. As the shutting down while riding is not the starter it sounds more like an electrical problem battery related.
