Motorcycle Repair: gear clashing on manco atv, shift levers, shift linkage

Question
I have a 2006 Manco atv 2x4 - 260 cc. It is just shy of 300 hrs. Excellent maintenance. The problem is shifting gears(proper rpm), it clashes bad, but can be forced into gear(high.low.or reverse). If the atv is off, you can shift gears easily, and then start it up drive normally in any gear. I have noticed when in gear and running it seems to move in that gear slowly(no acceleration). I have looked at the in depth manuel online (tranny section), and it explains if grinding, poppping out of gear, rough shift into gear, it needs shift linkage adjustment(2 rods from hand shift to tranny). The adjustment steps in manuel are confusing. I just do not know if this is it, or cvt, or cvt clutch? Please advise-Thanks

Answer
Daniel, This out of my area of experience as I have tried to avoid these units. They are kind of a cross between a Polaris and a Chinese made Midwest Mountain Lion. Make sure the rpm is low enough not to turn the clutches and as far as adjusting the shift levers I have no clue. You could take the rods loose from the trans and make sure the trans levers are in neutral and locked in to the detents. Move the shift lever to the neutral position then see how far the rods are off from dropping back into the respctive holes in the tran levers.
