Motorcycle Repair: gas leak 1983 v-45 sabre, v45 sabre, honda vf750s

Question
the hose from the shut-off valve was changed by me because i thought it was leaking, after replacing the hose it still leaked. my question is this? the tube that i put the other end of the hose on happens to swivel back and forth, is it supposed to be stationary or is it supposed to swivel back and forth? Is there an o-ring this tube swivels on? Could the float valve be sticking to cause this leak? thank you Bill I appreciate your time and knowledge about motoircycles.

Answer
Joe, I am trying to read between the lines in your question, here.

Here is a reference for the petcock, which is tightened to the fuel tank fitting with the large nut. There is also either a flat seal or an o-ring that seals the petcock to the fitting end, as I recall.

If the petcock is moving, it must be secured tightly so it doesn't leak at the joint.

The petcock can also leak at the diaphragm portion of the auto-shut off valve, which is part of the petcock assembly. If the diaphragm tears or ruptures, it will cause a fuel leak, an air leak and a reduction in fuel to the carburetor rack.

If I understand your reference to the hose fitting on the carburetor rack where the fuel line connects from the petcock to the carburetors, then the answer is YES, the fuel fitting is sealed on both ends by o-rings, which allow for movement/positioning of the fitting. Once the o-rings begin to leak, you have to go in and redo the whole carb rack assembly, renewing all the o-rings and seals.

I hope this answers your question completely.
