Motorcycle Repair: transmission problems, suzuki sv1000s, selector fork

Question
i did read your statement about being a cb expert. i do have a suzuki sv1000s 2003. i have not found anyone that can give me a definite answer to my problem with the transmission. i figured all bikes are roughly the same. if you cant help i understand. my issue is i dont have 2nd gear, hit throttle and teeth grind. i have been told that it is internal engine that has the issues and will need to replace the whole engine. but i would imagine its the transmission. also the bike sometimes has trouble getting into neutral. or the shifter is really hard to go into first gear. any info would be appreciated. thank you very much.

Answer
You were told correctly.  To fix this, the engine cases will need to be split, and you will find perhaps a bent selector fork, some debris in the bottom of the cases and dogs missing off some gears.  I would look for an engine from a wrecked bike.  Good luck,
