Motorcycle Repair: 99 suzuki intruder 800, suzuki intruder 800, starter solenoid

Question
i have a 99 suzuki intruder that wont start. i am getting nothing at all when i hit the starter button. i got a good battery and as far as i can tell a good connection. what else can i look for?

Answer
Scott check the starter solenoid. You should here a click when the solenoid engages. If not check the magnetic switch to see if you have power at both battery cables in and out when engageing the start button. Its possible there is a blown fuse in the wire circuit that operates the starting solenoid. If you have a test light it will be easier to locate the problem. If you see there is no power at the connector on the solenoid there will be no power on the battery cable going to the starter.
