Motorcycle Repair: my exhaust has melted, exhaust system components, model designations

Question
Motorcycle Repair: my exhaust has melted, exhaust system components, model designations
exhaust
i recently bought a 1980 Honda BCB00 in bits and much to my dismay i have found that part of the fittings on the exhausts have melted together
can you give me an idea of what to do to remove the fitting without breaking the exhaust pipe?
thanks

Answer
Jamie.... I don't recognize your model as described. Not sure if you have a typo there or what.
Usually Honda's street bikes are CB#__  I am guessing a CB100N at this point.

The photo is a bit out of focus, so I can't see if that is a flange or remains of an exhaust gasket on the end of the header pipe. There isn't anything on the end of the exhaust pipe that will "melt" due to high exhaust temperatures at the exhaust ports. All parts there are steel with a copper gasket between the end of the pipe inlet and exhaust port. I think that you are seeing the broken off flange edge of the exhaust pipe, due to a combination of rust and probably a loose fitting exhaust connection over the years.

Check sites like www.cmsnl.com for microfiche illustrations showing your model and the exhaust system components.

http://motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/classic_bikes/cb100-gallery.php gives photos and correct model designations.

Apart from that, from what I see, you will need to either find a great welder who can fabricate a new flange end on the pipe or replace it with a good used one.
