Motorcycle Repair: manyfold flodded it with fuel, honda magna, winter thanks

Question
I have a honda magna 1100 cc 1984..
I replaced spark plugs, started nice..but few days later,I tryed again and sprayed to much fuel thro.pipes.this happends several times per season.bike has been sitting for time to time,(six or more months per year.so how can a fix this problem ..do you think carburator is fludded or injectors are bad? I drive this bike for long periods ,800 or 1000 miles and hot weather..and at sits to long too.during winter ..thanks for your advise

Answer
Pepe,This unit is carburated not fuel injected, what may be happening is the floats may be sticking allowing the fuel to overflow and flood. This could be from the bike being parked for so long. With the alcohol content in the fuel we are now getting if the bike is parked for more than 30 days some problems may crop up like plugged jets sticking floats fouled plugs. Try some Lucas fuel injetor cleaner in the tank. Put in 1/2 bottle and fill tank with a premium gas and drive it.When the tank is almost empty put in the other 1/2 of the bottle and fill up again and drive it. This additive breaks down the gunk small enough to burn through the jets and cleans out carbs. If you have to park the bike for long periods put in some "Stabil" fuel conditioner and run the bike to get the conditioner into the carb then shut it off. If you can drain the carbs its even better but if you cant this may help. Also try a hotter spark plug. For example if the plug is a B8ES go down one number to B7ES. The lower the number the hotter the plug. Dont go to hot or it may burn the piston.
