Motorcycle Repair: 1998 suzuki bandit 600cc, suzuki bandit, volt meter

Question
I have a problem getting the bike to start, and once it does turn over it wont run with out the coke fully on. If the choke is turnd off it idles below 1000rpms and dies even after proper warming. Ive cleaned the jets out along with the carbs and floats, also the battery will not hold a 12-14 v charge for more than a day.. if any information as to even where to start it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Patrick, have the battery checked for a dead cell. Suzuki and Polaris are notorious for electrical problems. I believe that Suzuki requires at least 10.8 volts minimum to keep the ignition system working properly. If the voltage drops to low the bike wont run right. If the battery shows good and is recharged then check the stator output in may not be keeping the battery up.A simple volt meter on the battery before the bike is started then after its started, idleing then rev the bike up to about 2500 to 3000 rpm and check the voltage again it should increase to about 13.8 or 13.9 volts if not you may have a stator or regulator going bad.
