Motorcycle Repair: 1999 ninja zx6r no rpm, oil pressure switch, ninja zx6r

Question
I'm having a problem getting rpm there are no problems starting and no issues in idle but a soon as i give it the slightest rpm it sputters and dies, the oil pressure light comes on and stays on so i did the oil pressure switch test provided in the Haynes manual and according to the manual it is defective but i want to find the problem before spending all kinds of money replacing parts that don't need to be. the bike was recently hit and needed a new radiator this has just occurred since replacing the radiator but i doubt the radiator has anything to do with this problem so that is why i'm asking (it ran a rev'd good with the broken radiator)

Answer
Jay, I don't speak Ninja, so can only make guesses about what might be happening. There could be a fail safe function in the electronics so you don't wind up the motor with no oil pressure. The only way to affirm the switch malfunction is to test the oil pressure with a gauge. If you are getting around 60psi, I would imagine that the problem is the switch itself. I would think that you could substitute another cheaper automotive oil pressure switch if the OEM one is silly expensive. Once the oil light goes out, then perhaps the performance will return.

The accident damage could be deeper than just a radiator and/or the wiring in that area could be pinched/sheared off affecting the electronics.

That's about all I got for you here. Check Ninja forums to see if anyone else is having similar issues.
