Motorcycle Repair: Slipping out of First., shift linkage, yamaha v star 1100

Question
I have a 2006 Yamaha V-Star 1100 Classic.  Last February I had my clutch replaced. Since then, it’s been slipping out of first gear into neutral (or sometimes jumping into second gear) when I accelerate. Note: this only happens in first gear... all other gears behave correctly. I was living in the Hampton Roads, VA area at the time and moved back to Pittsburgh PA in March. So as you can imagine with changing jobs, moving, and with the sporadic weather at the time, I wasn’t able to take the bike back to the guy who put in my new clutch.

Was wondering if this sounds like something that will require some serious work by an experienced mechanic, or if it’s something simple; like tightening a cable or something.  Please let me know if you need further info.  Thanks!!!

Answer
Chip, somehow the shift linkage in the clutch area could have been damaged or not adjusted right. The right cover will need to come off and using the shifter the shift linkage can be watched to see it something can be adjusted or repaired or just worn out.
