Motorcycle Repair: 99 honda shadow 750, honda shadow 750, battery cables

Question
The present condition happened abruptly. Upon reaching home, the bike was turned off. After a short period of time, when attempting to turn the bike on, the usual response of dash lights lighting up, etc. didn't happen.
For some reason, no voltage appears to be getting beyond the ignition switch. The battery is fully charged and all fuses have been checked.
Unless your expertise tells me otherwise, I'm feeling I should have the ignition and kickstand switches checked for continuity. If you agree, how do I remove the ignition switch?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Hello John,

Here is a guide to checking the power:

Check both your positive and negative battery
cables on both ends and tighten the connections.

Then check your main fuse on the starter relay.

Use a test light or multimeter to check
if power is getting to the fuses. (key on)

If no power is on the fuses then your ignition
switch is suspect.

If you have power on (both sides) of the fuses
then check the engine stop switch for problems
or faulty wiring.

The main power to the ignition switch is a red wire
from the main fuse.

A red/black wire runs power from the ignition
switch to the fuses.

A black or black/green wire runs the power
from the fuse to the engine stop switch.

If the fuses are dead and the red wire
to the ignition switch has power
then the switch is bad.

The ignition switch has a cover over it,
remove the screw. If the bolts are the
break-off type then you will have to drill
the bolts out and get new bolts for the
switch. These are a security measure
but a pain.

Good luck!
