Motorcycle Repair: Getting my 1978 750k up and running, penetrating oil, old bike

Question
I just received my old bike back after it's been sitting in a garage for 22 yrs. I want to do the little things first, the bike was running when it went into storage. Do you know what are the most important things to do first? Well besides changing the ignition switch, I lost the key.

Answer
First I would remove the spark plugs, and put some penetrating oil into the bores.  Then I would see if the crank will turn, with a big wrench.  Do not try to turn it with the starter.  Make sure you get two complete revolutions out of the crank without it hitting anything, there could be a valve stuck.  Once everything spins freely, see if the carbs were stored with or without fuel.  If they were stored full, you have some carburettor work coming up, if they were drained, you may beblucky.  Power things up and see if she fires with some nice new fuel.  Good luck,  Jan
