Motorcycle Repair: 05 Suzuki Hayabusa, plug caps, hayabusa 1300r

Question
I have an 05 Hayabusa 1300R and was wondering where the spark plug is located and how hard is it to change. Also the horn doesn't work and noticed that the guy that had bike before me had it wired to use horn button as NOS so wanted to know how to switch it back to the horn?

Answer
Hi Gene,

The spark plugs (CR9EIA-9) are located under the fuel
tank and air box. The fuel tank can be
lifted and supported but the air box has
to come out to get at the plugs.

There will be a few other hoses and
gadgets to move temporarily also.

The ignition coils are built into
the spark plug caps on these bikes
so the coils/caps have to be carefully
pulled off the spark plugs before
they can be removed.

The plugs should not be overtightened
as the head is aluminum. (8 ft/lbs)

It might be a job left to a dealer
if one is nearby but if you get
a service manual that might help.
Parts can be expensive if anything
gets broken though so use caution.

The horn should not be too hard to
get working if the horn unit is
still on the bike.
They are usually under the left tank
cover somewhere near the radiator I believe.

The horn has two wires on it.
One wire will be orange or
orange/green. That wire will
have battery voltage on it
from the fuses with the key on.

The other wire is black and goes
to the horn button.

When the horn button is pushed
it grounds the black or black/blue
wire to a black/white ground wire.
This makes the horn sound.

So you have to make sure all these wires
are connected as described.

If you want to test the horn
check if it has power to it
and then just ground the black wire.
It should sound.

The horn button should have a black wire
that goes to the horn on it and
a black/white that just goes to
the bike's common ground circuit.

So the horn itself should have power
all the time (orange wire)with the key on.
It only sounds when the horn button
grounds the black horn wire to the black/white.

Good luck!
