I have a 1990 Suzuki VX800, I hold the clutch in When I put it in gear it stalls out.

Mike unless the clutch really jerks when you put it in gear it may not be out of adjustment.There is a side stand switch that shuts the motor off when put in gear if the stand is down preventing driving off with it down. Sometimes the switch gets hit and knocked out of alignment or it shorts out,bypass the switch by unplugging it or replace it heres the part # 37840-44X50 about $61.00 if you order one. Try bypassing it first before buying one.
