Motorcycle Repair: 92 yamaha fzr 600, regulator rectifier, yamaha fzr 600

Question
I replaced the stator and battery on my bike looking for a short or something because its still not holding a charge after a day of riding

Answer
It may not be the stator it could be the voltage regulator/rectifier make sure the battery is at full charge and test with volt meter while bike is off,it may test out at a little over 12 volts. Start the bike test battery at idle the rev engine to about 2500-3000 rpm the charging system should be maxxed out at about 13.8 volts. That way you know its charging. Turn the bike off and unplug the regulator and see if the battery goes down over night. If it doesnt drain the battery then replace the regulator. It could be shorted out allowing it to charge but creating a voltage draw when shut off.The part number for the voltage regulator is 47X-81960-A3-00 its about $78.00. I had a new one short out right out of the box it charged but when shut off it would back feed into the neutral light and run the battery down. Try it and good luck!!
