i have a 1983 Honda shadow VT 500c that is reading 18v charging i have replaced the rectifier and it was a brand new battery but it boiled the battery any suggestions please and thank you

If the battery boiled you will probably need to replace it.  The regulator is probably bad, but first check all the connections. Your bike has an alternator, which uses a regulator to control the amount of charge it generates.  If the feedback is poor, it can also cause these problems.  SO check all the connections, if good then suspect the regulator.
