Motorcycle Repair: 99 zx7r shuts off, zx7r, electrical problems

hi need help i ride my 99 zx7r and after about a half hour the bike shuts off checked all the obvious and then noticed that the brown wire coming off the ignition switch at the connector is very hot almost melting how can i fix and or check for short in wiring thank you

Electrical problems that are intermitant are the hardest to diagnose. The hard fails are easy. The cdi or igniter as Kaw calls them can out when it reaches operating temp. Also it could be the pick-up coil trigger down by the flywheel can do the same. However the on some models the trigger coil can be purchased for around $72.00 Part#59026-1104. The number for the igniter is #21119-1460 they around $300.00. So try to eliminate the problem before purchasing the parts because if it doesnt fix the problem totally they cant be returned.
