Motorcycle Repair: 1978 Suzuki GS550 main fuse, 1978 suzuki gs550, amp fuse

Question
Hi,

I have an 1978 Suzuki GS550 E. The bike runs great and I use it all summer to get me to and from work. I was riding it to work and all of a sudden everything shut down. I looked down and all of my indicator lights were off and when I gave it gas it went brrrrr and then it went quite. I hope it was just the main fuse on it but I can't find the main fuse. I found a blown fuse that was a 15A but I know that is not the main.

Do you know were on 1978 Suzuki GS550 the main fuse is located.

Answer
Hi Mike,

The GS550 has only the fuses you mentioned.
Check for power on both sides of the 15 amp
fuse. If okay then the power is coming from the
battery ok.

Next, check if the power is getting through the
ignition switch from the red wire to the
orange wire.

Red is the power and when you turn on the ignition
switch you should have power on the orange wire.

Both these wires also go to the fuse box
so you can check the power on the fuses as well.

If you have no power on the red wire check
the red to the battery and make sure
the regulator is not shorted out on the red.

Good luck!
