Motorcycle Repair: 2005 Softail Fuel-Pump swap to another 2005 Softail Tank, gas tanks, custom paint

Question
I recently swaped a fuel-pump from a 2005 fatboy tank to another 2005 softail fuel tank.

The bike starts-up with difficulty. It wont idle. If you gas it and keep it running...you can but it runs horribly.

The bike ran great before I swapped gas tanks. Tanks were clean. New plugs installed...just to outrule bad plugs. Spark is good. Battery fully charged. ( I swapped gas tanks due to I bought a custom paint set)

Is there such thing as air in the lines?

What tests can I run?

I heard of someone at a dealership had the same problem and they removed the top cover and attempted to start bike and apparently the fuel regulator shot out fuel 8 feet across the shop.

Have you ever experienced this?

Maybe there is a common mistake that I too have made.

I hope I have explained myself.

Thanks, James

Answer
Check to make sure you dont have a leak in the fuel line. It has to pressurize or the bike wornt run correctly. You should also do a pressure test on the fuel pump, but you would have to take the bike to a shop to have that done, unless you have the gage.
Good luck and happy riding
