Motorcycle Repair: Sealant, gasket products, honda cb360t

Question
What sealant do I use to reseal the ungasketed mating surface of my Honda CB360T split crankcase?
Thanks
Jim K.

Answer
Hi Jim,

The best sealant for the crankcases are the "Bond"
types. There is Hondabond 4, Yamabond and I believe
also Suzukibond 1215.

Since you have a Honda I would go with the Hondabond 4.
If it is not available Yamabond is very good and
I have used it numerous times with success.

The reason to use these compounds is that they
are designed to handle high temperatures and pressures
without failing.

Never use silicon gasket products on motorcycles
as they can squeeze out and plug oil passageways
which are small on motorcycle engines.

I have seen many engines with silicon seal stuck
everywhere and it never breaks down so the engines
seize up from lack of oil.

Hondabond 4 and Yamabond are both high quality crankcase
sealants.

Put a coat of sealer on the top case and then
lower the bottom case onto it.

Coat anything that looks like it needs it but
don't go overboard as it will seal great
as long as things are clean and dry.

It is better if little sealant is allowed to
squeeze out so preventing any problems with
sealant gumming things up.

If there is any damage to the cases from
cleaning ect then put a little extra sealant
in those areas.

(you can also use Three Bond 1194 or 1211 if
you have problems finding the others.)

Good luck!
