Motorcycle Repair: 1986 honda shadow, admission standards, honda shadow

Question
I think i might have a odd ball bike here !!!!!!!!!! The bike is a 1986 Honda Shadow 750C V-twin .... It was manufactured in Japan, and i do not believe this bike was sold in the United States because of the admission standards at the time ...I'm having trouble finding listing for parts that are the right one's for this bike ... Right now i'm looking for the Honda Part # for the oil filter my local dealer gave me the wrong filter but claims its for that bike .. the filter number that i got from them is 15410-MJ0-405 but this is the wrong filter it is quite large 25% larger then the one that came off the bike i believe it may screw on/or may not but the oil copasity of the filter is much larger  .... 2 questions one if this filter will screw on will the extra capasity effect the oil system??? and 2/ Does anyone no another honda number that would be for this bike that i can obtain the proper filter?

Answer
Hi Michelle, some oil filters have changed in outside dimensions over the years and in some cases its ok as long as it fits the threaded boss and the sealing ring surface match. The extra capacity will not hurt at all in fact just add a little more oil to fill the void and it will help transfer heat better. If the filter is a Honda oil filter for that bike thay may have changed something along the way to a larger capacity to avoid some problem. Also some afer market filters such as EMGO have surfaced to replace the "OEM" units at 1/3 the cost and just as good. Check online or go to a dealer that handles EMGO  oil filters the catalog shows the EMGO filter thst replaces the original equipment installed on the bike from the factory.
