Motorcycle Repair: 1997 500 polaris xplorer, polaris atv, electrical flow

Question
Hello I recently ran into a problem with my polaris atv. After I start the quad it will not accelerate. I can hold the throttle open and it just sputters and does not move. I found out that if i shut the fuel off, and keep the quad running it will start to rev normally and take off like nothing was wrong with it. I usually then turn the fuel back on and can ride with the throttle open all the way until i get to a turn and let off which causes the problem to occur again. I have cleaned the carb about four times, changed the spark plug twice, and cleaned the filter multiple times. I have checked to see if the rev limiter was causing a problem also, but it seems to be working fine. This problem has been quite annoying and I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.

Answer
I may not be able to answer this one.Ive had some really odd Polaris situations come up that did'nt make a lot of sense. You may still have an electrical problem. Turning the fuel off lets it lean out so it can burn the existing fuel. Check all the connections from the stator up to the CDI then to the coil. Sometimes a connector will build up resistance at a terminal and burn  or corrode inside the connector and stress the electrical flow. Some of the units got damaged when the were jump started from a larger power source like a auto battery charger or battery pack  and sometimes a vehicle. Try checking the connections first and test stator output it may be working but weak.
