Motorcycle Repair: valve adjustment, compression stroke, valve clearance

Question
could you please tell me what the valve setting is on a 1965 honda 90 ct200? thank you

Answer
Hello Cliff,

The small honda's of that generation
all used valve settings of .002" inch
and up to .004" inch on the exhaust.

If they make too much noise .002"
will work okay on both valves but no
tighter than that.

Make sure you turn the engine forward until
you see the intake rocker arm go
down and back up. Shortly after that
align the "T" mark on your flywheel
with the line on the engine case.

This will set the engine on it's compression
stroke where both valves will be fully
closed and proper for adjusting the valve
clearance.

Always recheck the clearance as tightening
the locknut on the adjuster may change
the setting. You have to adjust the
settings until the clearance is correct.
Keep the flywheel on the "T" mark also.

Good luck!
