how can i know where the regulator rectifier is located in my 1986 yamaha 700cc

Edwin, it is the big finned part, usually mounted near the battery. The stator harness normally plugs into the the reg/rectifier or a short jumper section between the two.

"Yamaha 700" refers to several different models......
