Motorcycle Repair: 1976 FLH, roll pins, spring retainer

Question
Hi Mike,  Hope you ha a good vacation. The way I found the starter solenoid setup on my '76 FLH was jury rigged. I think I know how it should go, so I'll start there, (I'm referring to the H_D parts catalog FL Models 1941-1984).  From the end of the plunger (PG.238-239, index #22); the shaft sticks out (toward the rear of the bike).  There is a hole for a roll pin almost right next to the end of the plunger on this shaft (index #3;part # 600 '65-*-FL,FLH, ETC;).  Next there is a hole for index #4, part #613 for late '75 to Early '81.  HERE I HAVE A QUESTION:  FOR A 1976 FLH WHICH (OR BOTH)OF THESE ROLL PINS IS INDICATED FOR USE and why??  Next is shown the rubber boot (index #26, part #26, then the overrun spring(???), retainer cap and roll pin.  doesn't the overrun spring, cap and roll pin go UNDER the rubber boot(?).  Then does the little nipple part of the rubber boot fit through the oval hole on the fork for the starter pinion gear (starter shifter lever PG.62-63, index #9, part #31445-65A?  Where does the plunger side of the overrun spring sit, on one of the 1st or 2nd roll pins, or on the plunger itself?.  I can't seem to figure out from the service manual, or the parts manual, what goes where and in what order.  Also, I don't seem to have the starter thrust washer pgs.63-63, index #22, part #31502-65.  Please help,  thanks, Chris

Answer
I dont have the same book you do, so its a little hard for me to follow you. I think from what you are saying, you wan to know where to rubber boot goes. The end of it goes behind the last rollpin. The spring, two roll pins and the cap go on the outside.
you need to put in the starter thrust washer.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
