Motorcycle Repair: BROKEN 83 Magna 1100with a stumped owner, bill silver, soldering iron

Question
I have a 1983 1100 V 65 Magna and this thing is drivin me nuts it runs great for about five minutes then the tach stops working and the back two cylinders cut out i have changed coils and it still does the same thing everyone i talk to tells me they will not work on it because it is to old i am about ready to shoot it like a horse with a broken leg i am at a loss of what could be wrong

Answer
Rod, the tachometer signal from the coils is an indicator of where the problem lies. The actual source is what is driving the coils.... the ignitor packs, not the coils themselves.

Now unload the shotgun, get out soldering iron and get it fixed properly.

Happy riding this summer....
