Motorcycle Repair: 1982 Honda 110 Shift problem, honda ct110, honda 110

Question
My 110 wont go into gear, have check the high/low and it seemed to be fine, but the bike just wont go into gear. Shift fork problem?

Answer
Tery, a little more history would have been useful, like the last time it did go into gear. Is it a CT110 or an ATC110?

These engines have automatic clutches which are activated by the shift lever as well as having a centrifugal speed function.

On top of that you have a shift arm, shaft, gear shift arm, shift drum, shift drum stopper and detent rollers in the system.

Your clutch might be "stuck" together from years of sitting or the adjustment on the outer clutch cover case may need to be set correctly (generally turn counterclockwise until it stops then back clockwise about 1/4 turn). The gear shift arm might be broken, the bolt for the stopper backed off or the detent roller/spring loosened up.  OR the shift drum/shift forks might be damaged!

Drain the oil and look for parts/particles that would indicate parts breakage/failure/wear. If clean, pull the clutch cover and inspect the shifter selection parts and then remove the clutch assembly for dis-assembly.  You will need a 4 prong special tool to remove the clutch nut.

Might want to buy a manual before you dive in there for repairs.
