Question
i have wired in a starter relay and i have the clutch out. i am working on a rebuild project i cant get the bike to crank the N light is on and the headlight is on the starter works i tested it out of the system. i can not find my clutch depressed switch anywhere. any thoughts on how i should start running down the system

Answer
Hi Ted,

The clutch switch can be checked with a multimeter.
The way the system works is this:

There is a 7 amp fuse providing battery power
to the starter switch on a red with black strip wire. (R/B)

When you push your starter switch the power flows down
a red/yellow wire to the starter solenoid.

That's it for the power side of the system.

The clutch switch handles the ground connection
of the circuit. When you pull the clutch in
the clutch switch connects the solenoid red/green
wire to a dark/green wire which is grounded.

With power on one side of the solenoid and the clutch
switch grounding the other side the solenoid it should
click and connect the battery to the starter motor.

If the clutch switch is not working or has lost it's
ground or it's wire to the solenoid then it will
not work.

The switch has to make connection when the lever is pulled in.
Some clutch switches are opposite and break the contact.

If you follow my explanation of the power and ground flow
you should be able to find the problem area.

Some bikes also start in neutral, in this case the
neutral switch is grounding the solenoid also.
Same principle as the clutch switch circuit.
It only grounds the solenoid when in neutral
or clutch pulled.

Good Luck!
