Motorcycle Repair: Honda VT250C 1995, chain sprockets, bill silver

Question
Hi there. My honda just started to make a strange knocking sound when I pull away on an incline. The noise sounds similar to when you release the bike stand. At times it knocks twice...depending on the incline. Definitely not the stand as the tention in the spring is quite strong.

Answer
Jerome,  Well, that is a bit of a skimpy description of your problem. The first thing that came to mind is that the chain is too loose and skipping a tooth on the worn sprockets. Going up an incline puts a lot more load on the drive train/chain/sprockets than on the flats. You only want about 1" or so of slack, measured between the sprockets at the tightest point on the chain.
