Motorcycle Repair: no power to the bike from battery, fuse holder, honda shadow

Question
will the lights still work if your coil's bad? I've got an 1100 honda shadow

Answer
Hi Tim,

For the most part your lights will work off the
battery but if you are talking about the
alternator coils they are used to charge the battery.
The ignition coil is separate from the lights.

If you have no power from the battery to the bike
it is likely a fuse burnt out. There may be
a main fuse on the starter relay solenoid just down
from the positive battery terminal.

If you have lights but no ignition then check
the ignition fuse in the fuse holder.

No power at all is usually the main fuse or
poor battery or battery cable connections.
It could also be a faulty ignition switch.

If you follow up with the year of your bike
and more details I can help you further.
