Motorcycle Repair: 85 Electra Glide Classic Rear Bearing Change, tapered roller bearings, wheel seal

Question
QUESTION: Hi Mike (Its the Newbie Again)...lol

Seriously Mike,
Want to change the Rear Bearing on my '85 H-D being that I'm waiting for new tires to come.

Questions Please:

Mike if you can explain to me Step-by-Step how to get the bearing out I know how to grease it

1- What tool(s) do I need ?
2- Just how do I go about this project ?

Thanks Mike
GOD BLESS

ANSWER: Once you remove the wheel you have to pull the seal that is over the bearing. Once its out the bearing is right behind it. Its a tapered bearing so it will just slide out
Good luck and happy riding

QUESTION: Mike

Still in the DARK. There's two side to the wheel.

1. Which side to I pull/jerk-out with what tool(s) ?
2. Do I need a BEARING PULLER or something ?

Mike can you be a little more clearer on this matter please.

Thanks Mike
GOD BLESS

Ray

Answer
There is a bearing on both sides. they are Timpken Tapered Roller Bearings. You don not need a puller to remove them. They will just come out with your fingers. You take them out on the side that they are on. Just remove the rubber wheel seal and they are right behind it. You can use a screwdriver to remove the seal.
Good luck and happy riding
