Chrysler Repair: ALARM GOING OFF NO REMOTE: Sebring sedan, chrysler sebring lxi, 1997 chrysler sebring lxi

Question
My alarm just started going off this morning on my 1997 Chrysler Sebring LXi (hardtop-6 cylinder?  How do I disable the alarm?

Answer
Hi Andrea,
The normal way is of course to lock, then unlock the door lock on either front door.
The simplest way to disable the alsrm is never to arm it. It is armed either by using the power door locks to secure the lock, or locking the doors with a key. So the way to avoid arming it is to do neither of those actions. Instead use the interior mechanical locks when you exit (you may have to lift the outside handle or push a button on the outside of the door so that the mechanical lock doesn't cancel from the locked position) and never use the power locks just before exiting the car.
The security alarm and shutdown system is built-in to the body computer and so you can't disable/remove it. All you can do is to avoid using it as described above.
If you are in s lock-down/alarmed situation and the engine won't start let me know and I can tell you how to manipulate the body computer from under the dash to reset the system, but there is no way to "kill" it.

PS: Another possibility for a false alarm situation occuring is that one of the doors is not latched tight enough to the door frame so that there is false alarm that then sets it off. Try pushing outward from inside the car on each of the doors to see if one of them causes the interior lights to go 'on'. That door would be the one to adjust the striker plate on the door frame, which mates to the latch mechanism in the door proper. Simply loosen the screws on the stiker plate and move it in-board a small amount and then retest to see that interior lights are not coming on when you push on the door.
