Motorcycle Repair: Smoke, piston rings, valve guides

Question
I have a 82 ironhead, the pushrod gasket went out but i had to get home so i just kept adding oil, now the bike is smoking bad and stinks and the oil is burnt....am i screwed? im thinking either worn valve guides or bad piston rings...what do you think? i cant work on it any more do to the war, so how much do you think it would be to fix?

Answer
There are two places that would cause smoke to come from the exhaust. Either the valve guides are worn or the piston rings are worn. You would need to have a top end done on the bike. I can tell you how much it will cost. Prices differ all over the country as well as shop to shop.
Good luck and happy riding
