Motorcycle Repair: transmissions, fxe, shovel

I have a 77 shovel,fxe if I install an aftermarket 6 speed for an 89 softail, can I use my shovel primarys and clutch or use the 89 softail primarys clutch, starter, the advantage would be 6 speeds and a rear belt on my 98ci shovel, will this work? or am I on glue?

I dont think you can do that. the 89 tranny is a different size from the shovel, so you would have trouble spacing the tranny to the motor. The starter is not going to fit either. Not enough space. they do make a 5 speed for your shovel that will work
