Suzuki: Tracker rear wheel seal, chilton manual, wheel seal

Question
I have a right rear wheel that is leaking grease.  I have it apart down to having the brake shoes etc. off and the four backing plate nuts off.  This loosens the seal cover but I can't go any further without pulling the axle it looks like.  Does the axle have to be pulled and if so what is the procedure.  Can you advise me.  I have quite a bit of mechanical experience but have not done this one before.  Thanks.  Don

Answer
Yes, you have to pull the axle.  The seal that keeps differential lube inside is behind the bearing.  I've done a sidekick/tracker, but it was more than fifteen years ago, and I don't remember whether the backing plate retains the bearing or not.  If it were a
Samurai, I could tell you all the ins and outs.  You could probably get by with a Haines or Chilton manual on this, and they are only $15 -$30 at the NAPA parts store.
