Motorcycle Repair: Adjusting Clutch Lever, friction zone, clutch lever

QUESTION: I have a 2010 Softail Deluxe and I'd like to bring the 'friction zone' nearer to the hand grip.  The owner's manual does not cover how to do this.  Would you offer advice on how to adjust this lever?  Many thanks, Mike.

ANSWER: I am not sure what you mean by the friction zone. Do you want the clutch to engage closer to the handgrip or farther away?

If you want it to engage nearer the handgrip then one, you will have alot of play in the lever and two, your clutch will not disengage all the way which is hard ont he clutch plates. If you still want to do it all you have to do is loosen the nut ont he clutch cable and shorten the cable. This will move the clutch point closer to the grip.
